ER: Parental Guidance

With the fifteenth and final season of the acclaimed long-running medical drama ER
being aired, there’s definitely a lot of pressure on the show to retain its success. Tonight, the series brings tension for its many characters on the episode “Parental Guidance.” Focusing on the moving issues of families, the numerous occurrences on tonight’s ER will surely be both astounding and sentimental.

On “Parental Guidance,” an unexpected occurrence is faced by Dr. Catherine Banfield (Angela Bassett). Being caught off guard, she must think quickly of how to arm herself when a robbery takes place. Meanwhile, the organized protests of Brenner (David Lyons) lead to Dr. Lucien Dubenko (Leland Orser) getting reinstated.

Also, a young gymnast makes her way to the ER with injuries consistent with a fall. However, Banfield and Dr. Tony Gates (John Stamos) find that something’s not right with her story. They have every reason to suspect that a family member was involved, and they might just put the blame on the person. Speaking of families, Gates’ daughter, Sarah, gets her tongue pierced and neglects to ask permission from her father.

Previously on ER was the episode, “The Book of Abby.” We all saw how Abby (Maura Tierney) took on her first day as an Attending, and managed a few things on her own. Her long-time friend and colleague, Neela (Parminder Nagra) was disappointed when she found out about the news through someone else. Abby’s bittersweet experience was marked by the event of having an argument with the new ER chief about how to treat a gunshot victim. Later on, she comes to the aid of Nurse Sam (Linda Cardellini), who has to confront a nurses’ disciplinary board. The episode was noted because it denoted the departure of actress Maura Tierney, together with her TV husband Luka Kovac and son Joe. Since Abby got a new job, they presumably moved to Boston.

Tonight, October 23, a new installment of ER, titled “Parental Guidance” airs on NBC at 10pm. Next week, the series returns with the episode “Haunted.”
