Steve resorts to desperate measures when his partners in crime suggest that Sam and Alex are hindering their escape. Meanwhile, Weaver (Laura Innes) finds Abby (Maura Tierney) passed out and bleeding and rushes to make sure the baby is safe. Dr. Dubenko (Leland Orser) and Neela (Parminder Nagra) struggly to stabilize Jerry’s injuries.

| Abby’s (Maura Tierney) overbearing mother (guest star Sally Field) arrives at the hospital to comfort her and Dr. Kovac (Goran Visnjic) as their son’s life hangs in the balance. Sam (Linda Cardellini) returns to Chicago but fears that police will arrest her despite her claims of self-defense. Paramedic Tony Gates (John Stamos) makes a risky decision with an overdosed teen. Later, Gates escorts a very drunk Neela (Parminder Nagra) home after drowning her sorrows at the local bar.

| Pratt (Mekhi Phifer) assumes his new role as attending but gets stuck with the task of dealing with all the new interns. When an older man is brought in to the ER with congestive heart failure, Pratt assigns Gates (John Stamos) to assess his condition. Later, the man’s partner Bennett Cray (guest star John Mahoney) comes to visit and must fight with his partner’s family to help keep him alive. Meanwhile, Neela (Parminder Nagra) meets the new surgical chief (guest star J.P. Manoux) and quickly finds out that he plans to make her life a living hell.

| Gates (John Stamos) constantly finds himself stuck in the middle of his complicated living situation. After trying to juggle work and their new baby, Abby (Maura Tierney) and Kovac (Goran Visnjic) contemplate hiring help. Dr. Pratt (Mekhi Phifer) finds it difficult keeping all the interns and residents on track now that he is the new attending. Meanwhile, Neela is disappointed when Dr. Crenshaw (guest star J.P. Manoux) assigns her menial tasks instead of the surgery she was hoping to perform.

| Fresh off of her maternity leave, Abby (Maura Tierney) prepares to return to work but worries that she may not remember how to be a doctor. Kovac (Goran Visnjic) tries to recall his treatment of stroke patient, Curtis Ames (guest star Forest Whitaker) as he prepares for his day in court. Abby and Pratt (Mekhi Phifer) try an unconventional method for treating a heart patient in hopes of avoiding a more invasive procedure. Meanwhile, Dr. Kovac defends his actions in court while Mr. Ames tries to prove he was neglected at County General.

| Dr. Kovac (Goran Visnjic) anxiously awaits the jury decision between himself and Curtis Ames (guest star Forest Whitaker) but fears for the worst. Neela (Parminder Nagra) is tired of doing the dirty work and tries to prove to Dr. Crenshaw (guest star J.P. Manoux) that she is worthy of scrubbing in for surgery. Morris (Scott Grimes) prepares for his big television debut but ends up getting upstaged by Weaver (Laura Innes). Meanwhile, Ray (Shane West) starts to get jealous when he sees Neela and Gates (John Stamos) flirting.

| Abby (Maura Tierney) and Kovac (Goran Visnjic) finally decide to hire a nanny to care for their son Joe, but are troubled when they meet the potential candidates. Morris (Scott Grimes) and Sam (Linda Cardellini) try to treat a biligerant patient that comes in with seemingly simple flu. However, when they discover that his condition is much more complicated, the patient refuses treatment. During a trip to the park with Joe, Abby inadvertantly meets Curtis Ames (guest star Forest Whitaker). Meanwhile, Gates (John Stamos) and Neela (Parminder Nagra) argue with each other at a hospital board meeting.

When a group of confused homeless kids enter the ER, Gates (John Stamos), Abby and Neela (Parminder Nagra) must quickly determine one child’s ailment before it is too late. Meanwhile, Weaver (Laura Innes) is unexpectly called to action while doing a news report at a school.

| It’s Thanksgiving in the “ER” but all is far from being quiet. Abby (Maura Tierney) is about to head home when she is forced to respond to a bus crash accident on the side of a ravine. Neela (Parminder Nagra) accepts Gates (John Stamos) invitation to go over to his house after work, but they are quickly interrupted by an unwelcome guest. Meanwhile, Pratt (Mekhi Phifer) decides to discuss his brother with Dr. Weaver (Laura Innes).

Gates (John Stamos) begs Neela (Parminder Nagra) to give him a chance. Meanwhile, Kovac and Gates treat a young girl who appears to have been assaulted.

After treating the young victim, Gates goes againest his promise and calls child protective services. Curtis Ames (guest star Forest Whitaker) turns the tables on Dr. Kovac (Goran Visnjic) when he issues a restraining order against him. Dr. Dubenko (Leland Orser) gives Neela (Parminder Nagra) the opportunity to be a part of a very special holiday miracle. Meanwhile, with the holiday spirit in full effect, romances heat up the ER.

Gates (John Stamos) is urgently called home when Sarah (Chloe Greenfield) panics that she might be taken away. Meanwhile, a patient convinces Neela to attend an anti-war rally and consquently finds her life in peril.
